Hello! My name is Wakaba, you probably know me, or have seen my name if you’re into VTubers back when Kizuna AI and Kaguya Luna was still making jabs at each others, or you liked a lot of anime pages on Facebook. I also have a cute mascot for my translation works, her name is Wakaba-tan, and she’s really cute.

I’ve always loved writing, though I’m not into creative writing. I used to write articles (and a lot of reports) for work, and I also like to practice my English through writing, before I even started translating back in 2015. I rarely do any public translations nowadays, and while I started translating as a hobby, I was blessed by several translation jobs and projects, and also a nice community based on VTuber and translations.

Why a blog and not Wakaba-tan?

After almost 3 years since I got into VTubers, I felt like we don’t have enough writers and articles for VTubers. Aside from several articles on big sites like AnimeNewsNetwork or Tokyo Otaku Mode, there’s rarely any articles about VTubers! (Shout-out to J-kun who does amazing articles about Crossick unit from NIJISANJI Japan on his blog though)

I do understand that in this era, news are mostly shared through social media, and people don’t usually read more than the headline anyway, so why bother writing articles about VTubers that most people don’t even know? I think there’s a limit on what you can do with subtitles on a video or a translated clip; if you want to explain what’s happening on a stream, video, or an event.

In Japan, we’ve seen VR-related news sites writing about VTubers like Panora or Mogura, but the articles they made rarely reaches outside of Japan, even though there are quite a lot of interesting international events for VTubers in the past year. I want to use my blog to write about interesting VTuber events, or other interesting VTuber stuffs I found online on my own platform, without having to worry about readership or views.

And even though I have Wakaba-tan, I don’t have any plans to use her as a platform for me to spread or explain VTuber culture on a video/stream format, since I like her to stay as a cute mascot without me ruining her image. Just don’t expect me to stream and do Q&A as Wakaba-tan and do VTuber-y stuffs, it won’t happen. I feel like I can express myself better through text, anyway.

Aside from VTuber news and personal stuffs I’d like to write from time to time, I also thought about putting guides on this blog, nothing too complicated, but I figured it’d be nice if we can just send people to a page if they want to start translating, or making clips. for example.

I also don’t plan on making or uploading any translated clips to my channel, even though that seems like how most people make translations for VTubers nowadays, as I want to keep my YouTube channel free from other people’s videos/content, and even if I make any videos for the channel, I’d probably make videos about Wakaba-tan or some stupid gaming videos, since it’s a channel for her, the virtual translator.
